Impressed by the particular terroir of the region, the Bernetti family of Umani Ronchi purchased the estate in 2001, named after an ancient village nearby called Montepagano. The property combines Abruzzo’s classic deep, rich fruit and concentration with the finesse and elegance typical of the neighbouring Marches. Add to this certified organic farming, and you have one of Abruzzo’s up and coming properties. Cerasuolo is the rosato version of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, made in the ‘saignee’ method with brief skin contact. A vivid pink, it is dry and refreshing with hints of cherry and rose. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo displays the versatility of this variety, with underlying depth and weight. Rich red-purple, the nose and palate are fruity with notes of fresh berries and a touch of spice.
Coming soon is Costamorro, made from a selection of the estate’s best Montepulciano grapes that overlook the small village of Morro d'Oro. The wine falls under the newly promoted DOCG, the first in Abruzzo, of Colline Teramane. The wine has an intense bouquet with liquorice, spice and sour cherry, the palate soft and round with well integrated tannins.
