Villa La Selva

Winemaker: Stefano Chioccioli

Located just off the south eastern border of Chianti Classico between Gaiole and Castelnuovo Berardenga, the estate has, since 1988, seen a monumental overhaul, including enormous investment in new technology, high density replanting of the vineyards (5500-8000 vines per hectare) for low yields (4-6 tonnes per hectare), and reconstructing and expanding the winery. This program has been masterminded by brilliant winemaker Stefano Chioccioli and proprietoress, Guia Carpini, ensuring that Vigna del Papa’s reputation as one of Tuscany’s best quality Vin Santos is safe.

The wine is made from carefully selected Trebbiano, Malvasia and San Colombano grapes, which are naturally dried for three months in cool, well-ventilated rooms, then soft pressed and barrique fermented and aged for five years. It is an intense burnished gold, with a heady bouquet of honey, candied citrus and spice and a smooth silky palate packed full of fruit and honey. A delicious ‘digestivo’ that makes a great partner to Italian cheese (Tuscan pecorino) and rich desserts.
