ColleMassari is located in Montecucco, a newly-promoted DOC nestled between the historical areas of Brunello and Morellino. The estate is situated at the foothills of Monte Amiata and is oriented towards the Tyrrhenian coast. The 350 hectare estate includes 83 hectares of vineyards, 22 of olive groves and 100 hectares of mixed crops. The remaining area is woodlands and the estate is surrounded by a state forest. While Sangiovese is still very much at home here, the conditions – 320 metres above sea level and consistent ventilation (due partly to the estate’s proximity to the Tyrrhenian coast and partly to the 15% incline) – allow other varieties like Ciliegiolo, Montepulciano and Vermentino to thrive. Production is based on organic principles (guaranteed and certified) and winemaking is carried out in the architectural award-winning four storey gravity feed winery.

Rigoleto is 70% Sangiovese, 15% Ciliegiolo and 15% Montepulciano from vineyards at 300m on soils of sandstone, tufaceous clay and calcareous marl. The wine is vinified in open stainless steel vats for 20-25 days and once malolactic has taken place, half the wine is aged for ten months in second and third use barrique and tonneaux. Rigoleto is full-bodied with blackberry fruit, spice and liquorice notes, the palate smooth and delightful to drink.
