Costaripa is the estate of Mattia Vezzola (Bellavista’s long serving winemaker), situated on the western shore of Lago di Garda. The region is geographically close to Franciacorta, but with its own native grapes such as Trebbiano del Lugana, Groppello and Marzemino and, despite the northerly latitude, the microclimate is nearly Mediterranean with olive groves, lemon trees, cedars, capers and cypresses. Rosé wines, both still and sparkling, are Mattia’s specialty. Brut Rosé is mostly Chardonnay with 20% Pinot Nero which is allowed to ferment unpressed to allow for gentle colour extraction without tannins. Bottle fermented in the classic method, it is a pale cherry colour with hints of forest fruit, vanilla and currants, the full flavoured palate maintains great freshness to work well with a range of food. Chiaretto, the local name for Rosato wines, is made mostly from Groppello and is luminous rose petal pink with floral notes and cherry and pomegranate fruit.
