In 2001, wine and food luminaries Joe Bastianich, Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali joined forces to create La Mozza, a beautiful 40 hectare estate located in the Maremma region of Tuscany. Together with their enologist, Maurizio Castelli, the group seized on the freedom of expression opportunity the Maremma offers, planting Sangiovese and other Mediterranean varietals such as Alicante, Carignano and Syrah.

I Perazzi is a blend of 85% Morellino (the local name for Sangiovese in Maremma) with 5% Syrah, 5% Alicante, 2% Colorino and 3% Ciliegiolo, named after the pear-like fruits that grow on the estate and depicted on the label. Fermented by natural yeasts with a twenty day maceration, 60% of the wine is aged in old French barrique for 10 months. This has ripe cherry fruit with spice and liquorice, the palate finishing soft and round.

Aragone is 40% Sangiovese, 25% Alicante, 25% Syrah and 10% Carignano, fermented by natural yeasts and aged in tonneaux for 24 months. The name is a reference to the Aragons of Spain who, together with the Medici family of Florence, dominated the wilds of Maremma in the 1500s. It is intense ruby red with reflections of violet, the Sangiovese and Alicante providing structure, spice and liquorice, the Syrah and Carignano contributing a fresh dark berry fruit component.
