VALLE D'AOSTA

Amaro

This the smallest region in Italy, nestled in a valley that rises to the Alps bordering Switzerland and France. Home to the highest vineyards in Europe, this is truly ‘viticoltura di montagna’ – mountain viticulture – with a long cold winter and short summer and the vines are mostly grown on terraced vineyards planted to maximise sunshine hours. The grapes grown here are some of the most unique in Italy, from Petite Arvine and Prie Blanc for whites to Pinot Noir, Gamay, Nebbiolo, Fumin, Torrette, Mayolet, Petite Rouge and Cornalin for red.
