Giacomo Tachis, Decanter Man of the Year
Decanter Magazine just announced Giacomo Tachis their 2011 Man of the Year. Sig. Tachis becomes the third Italian (Angelo Gaja and Piero Antinori being the other two) to win the award. Born in Piedmont, Sig. Tachis is well known for his work in Tuscany and is considered the ‘father of the SuperTuscans’, having created Tignanello, Solaia and Sassicaia. Now retired, his winemaking influence changed the landscape for Tuscan wine, and Italian wine, during the 1980’s. In addition, he also worked with a roll call of some of Italy’s top estates, including; Rampolla, Querciabella, Umani Ronchi, Argiolas, Santadi, Donnafugata and Santa Anastasia.
