Friulano, Ribolla, Malvasia Istriana, Picolit & Refosco
Situated in the northeast of Italy, with its wide variety of landscapes, Friuli-Venezia Giulia feels as much Slavic and Austrian as it does Italian. In fact, Friulian culture is more Central European than Mediterranean as it is a true crossroads of civilizations.
Despite most of the regions wines being red, from Cabernet, Merlot and indigenous grapes like Refosco, Pignolo and Schioppettino, its the white wines that Friuli is best known for. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are popular but it’s the local grapes Friulano, Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla that offer unique wines with complexity, flavour, balance and texture.
