Poggio di Bortolone

Chiaramonte Gulfi, Province of Ragusa

Pierluigi Cosanza is the seventh generation to manage Poggio di Bortolone, located near Ragusa in the south east of Sicily. Here, on sandy soils, the local Frappato grape thrives and produces a red you might not expect from this far south.

Producing wines with a big character and personality, expression of our terroir is by generation our focus. Low production for acres, attention to biodiversity and honouring for the environment are our philosophy. Bursting with bright raspberry and cherry fruit and an intoxicating nose of dried flowers is a light, elegant red that is fresh and lively. Cerasuolo di Vittoria, the islands only DOCG wine, sees Frappato blended with Nero d’Avola to produce a slightly more full bodied wine.
